Mumbai: An FIR was registered against Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant over his derogatory remark made against Shaina NC, a leader of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
The case was registered against Sawant following a complaint lodged by Shaina NC, who is a candidate in the Mumbadevi Assembly seat. The Nagpada Police Station registered a first information report against Sawant.
"I am not some 'maal' (goods). I am a daughter of Mumbai and working dedicatedly for the past 20 years. This is a crass comment by Sawant. MVA has no respect for women. The Mahayuti government is doing a lot for our womenfolk, like the 'Ladki Bahin'," Shaina NC said.

"Arvind Sawant calling Shaina NC ‘maal’ is outright disgusting. He’s made similar offensive remarks about Muslims in the past. If anyone is 'imported maal,' it’s Arvind Sawant, elected as South Mumbai’s MP in 2014 while living in Powai," Mr Deora said in a social media post.
Sawant made the remarks while talking to media a couple of days ago, when he was asked about Shaina NC's candidature in the polls. (With Agency inputs)
