JALANDHAR: Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has been booked on the complaint of Bholath SDM for obstructing, holding threat of injury to a public servant, wrongful confinement, defamation and criminal intimidation after the officer had sent two complaints – one to chief minister Bhagwant Mann and other to chief secretary.
Reacting to FIR registered against him, Khaira dared CM Mann to register "as many false cases as he wants but he won’t be intimated or cowed down and would continue to oppose tooth and nail the anti -Punjab and anti-Sikh actions of his government."
In his complaint of March 29 to CM, SDM Sanjiv Sharma alleged that Khaira was obstructing smooth functioning of his post and had even started threatening and bullying him in intimidating manner which raised apprehension of danger to his life and limb. He mentioned the Facebook live done by Khaira on the same day after coming to his office and asked unwarranted questions "just to humiliate and demean me". He sought necessary action.
Then, he sent another mail to Punjab chief secretary in continuation of his earlier complaint and held that the Bholath MLA had given notice to hold dharna at his office on April 10on the issue of girdawri. Terming the dharna unprovoked and uncalled for, the SDM said that this would create an atmosphere of threat, intimidation and bullying at the Sub Divisional complex.
The FIR reflects that chief secretary forwarded the complaint, sent to CM, to Punjab DGP on Wednesday asking to examine it for further necessary action as per law and submit an action taken report at the earliest and then it moved downwards to DIG, SSP, DSP Bholath and then to SHO Bholath by Thursday and latter registered a case under sections 186, 189, 342, 500 and 506 of IPC.
Meanwhile Khaira said: "The lightening speed of correspondence by the Chief Secretary, DGP, DIG, SSP, DSP and SHO resulting in FIR between 26-27 April also exhibits sheer vendetta against him by the CM misusing official machinery of the state."
Khaira denied charges of any intimidation or threats and said that everything was clear from the videos of both the occasions.
He said that Mann himself had many times gone "Live" from official premises including the Lok Sabha and many of his MLA’s often been seen going "Live" from police stations, hospitals, schools etc. but police never registered against them. He also questioned what action was taken for Lawrence Bishnoi giving interviews from hail.
He held that CM Mann had personal hatred towards him which became evident during the last assembly session also.
