Fiona Phillips' love story with ITV boss as Alzheimer's diagnosis confirmed

Former television presenter Fiona Phillips has confirmed that she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, aged just 62.

The much loved GMTV host and Mirror columnist was diagnosed with the disease 18 months ago and has shared that it is a condition both her parents battled previously, reports the Mirror.

The 62-year-old is currently being cared for by her loving husband, and This Morning boss, Martin Frizell. Speaking in an exclusive Mirror interview, 64-year-old Martin has explained that Fiona's illness has meant he has been ramping up the doting husband duties.

These have included whipping up nutritious meals and taking her on regular trips to their home in Italy.

He said: "Before I didn’t ever have to worry about Fiona before and now I do. ‘What is she doing all day while I’m at work? What is she doing in the evening if I’m out? what has she eaten?’"

With Fiona supported firmly by her husband, here's everything you need to know about the couple's long-lasting relationship.

How did Fiona and Martin meet?

When the pair first met, Fiona was working at GMTV as a presenter, and Martin was chief correspondent for the show.

Previously, Fiona had never wanted to get married, but Martin proposed to her after just a month of dating.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Fiona said that her reaction was: "Why would I want to do that? My dad always joked, 'Don’t do what I’ve done, get married and have children.'

"He was a free spirit and I’m very like him.’”

However, Fiona decided to say yes as she realised how much it meant to Martin, as she spotted his heart sinking and his eyes tearing up.

When did they get married?

Fiona and Martin tied the knot in 1997 in a ceremony in Las Vegas.

Speaking of the event, Fiona explained: "I just don’t believe in being tied legally to someone.

"I remember filling in the details for the licence and thinking I could have put that I'm marrying Mickey Mouse or Eamonn Holmes and no one would have been the wiser....The fact is, we’re still together."

Do Fiona Phillips and Martin Frizell have children together?

The pair have two sons together, Nathaniel and Mackenzie, with one taking Martin's surname and the other taking Fiona's.

Fiona said: "They are the loves of my life."
