A teenager has been discharged from hospital a week after he was stabbed outside his school in Finsbury Park, police have said.

The 18-year-old student was knifed shortly after 1pm on Blackstock Road close to the Finsbury Park Centre on January 14.

The Met Police said Mert Guner, 22, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on January 18, charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on February 17.

The student’s college had previously described his injuries as “non-life-threatening”.

A Capital City College spokesperson, which runs Finsbury Park Centre, said: “We can confirm that, on 14 January, one of our students sustained a non-life-threatening injury outside the premises of our Finsbury Park centre.

“The front entrance to the building was temporarily closed to assist relevant authorities.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students and staff, and we are providing support to anyone affected.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 3274/14JAN.
