Finnish model spent £3k on botched surgery which collapsed nose and put her out of work

A Finnish model and influencer has opened up about her experiences after she spent £3,000 on botched surgery which resulted in her nose collapsing.

Model and influencer Henna Havila spoke about how she injured her nose as a child which left her unable to breathe through her left nostril and underwent a procedure to straighten her septum.

The procedure corrected the breathing issue but a cosmetic defect left a bump in her nasal bridge.

After being contacted by photographers and modelling agencies in 2020, Henna decided to "fix" the bump in her nose - something she thought was holding back her career.

Henna, who grew up in Kouvola in Finland, decided to visit a clinic in Estonia as it was cheaper with more experience. The procedure was supposedly simple, using a closed technique, as the bump only needed to be filed away.

During her consultation, Henna alleges that the CEO of the clinic tried to convince to undergo a full rhinoplasty procedure but the model declined and wanted only the bump filing.

She had the surgery on September 17, 2020, which cost her 3,490 euros (£3,032.53), with additional blood tests and Covid-19 tests increasing this total to 3,790 euros (3,293.21).

After the procedure, she was asked to wear a large plastic mask for 15 days which was longer than the expected seven to 10 days.

Henna had returned to Finland the day after the surgery but was unable to return to Estonia for the removal of the mask due to coronavirus restrictions between the two countries.

The clinic did not give her instructions on how to remove the mask so she tried by soaking it in oil.

It looked as though the surgery had worked until a few days later when her nose became swollen and infected. Finnish doctors gave her antibiotics, with the clinic blaming her for not returning to Estonia for the mask removal.

Two months later, Henna's nose began to collapse and look crooked. There was also severe pain, as well as pressure as she could feel it twisting to the right.

The botched surgery severely affected her modelling job as she was no longer cast for jobs. She has since become an influencer and has had revision surgery which has corrected the damage, but at the cost of 3,000 euros (£2,653.31).

Henna, who now lives in Wichita Falls in Texas, took to Instagram to share her story with her 6,629 followers.

She said: "If it's not necessary don't do it. If I would have known that a small procedure can go this wrong I would not have done it.

"I'm pleased with this result but I can say that this terrible experience left me with a nose complex. I keep looking at it and taking photos every day to see if there are any changes in it but there haven't been.

"Even if it is fixed now, I still don't feel like I would be 100 per cent myself yet. It's a weird feeling that I could now enjoy doing my make-up again and dressing up but I get anxious every time I need to do that and it was something that I loved doing before this first clinic destroyed my nose."
