Finland to extend Covid travel rules for UK travellers entering country

Finland is the latest EU nation to extend Covid entry restrictions for travellers from the UK until next month.

UK travellers will continue to be required to present proof of Covid-19 vaccination, recovery from the virus, or a negative Covid-19 test result to enter the country.

Restrictions in Finland were set to expire on June 5, but the decision was made to extend them until June 30, according to SchengenVisaInfo.

A spokesperson for the Finnish Ministry said: "Those arriving from outside the EU and the Schengen area are required to have a valid certificate for a full series of vaccinations or for coronary heart disease less than six months ago, subject to certain exceptions."

These rules apply to all third country travellers aged 16 and over.

Covid-19 travel requirements for UK residents entering Finland

According to the UK government, Finland's current rules for people travelling on a full ‘British Citizen’ passport from the UK, for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Finland set and enforce entry rules.

If you are fully vaccinated

  • You can enter Finland without needing an essential or compassionate reason for entry
  • Proof of vaccination - you will need to demonstrate proof of being fully vaccinated at least 7 days prior to arrival
  • Boosted - If you have received a booster, you are considered fully vaccinated for entry into Finland. There is currently no expiry date for booster jabs
  • If you have not received a booster, but have received two doses of a vaccine approved for use by Finland, then at least seven and no more than 270 days must have passed since your second dose, to qualify as fully vaccinated
  • Those who can not provide any of the above certificates may be subject to a coronavirus test upon arrival in Finland

If you're not fully vaccinated

  • You will only be allowed to enter Finland if you can provide evidence of an essential or compassionate reason for entry -this does not include tourism
  • If you have recovered from COVID-19 and have received one vaccine dose, you will be considered fully vaccinated by the Finnish authorities and should follow the instructions in the above section - you will need to evidence this on a single certificate

Children and young people

  • Young people born in 2006 or earlier are exempt from Finland’s Covid-19 entry requirements and they do not need to provide proof of vaccination or take a Covid-19 test, if they are accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult guardian.

Exemptions

The following groups are exempt from proving vaccination status or Covid-19 recovery status:

  • Citizens of Finland
  • Permanent residents in Finland
  • People travelling to Finland for essential or compassionate reasons - you must be able to sufficiently prove such reasoning
  • Children born in 2006 or earlier travelling with a fully vaccinated guardian

It comes as the following EU countries confirmed they would be keeping Covid travel measures in place until June - and are to review whether restrictions should remain in place for another month:
