Finglas community in 'profound shock' after mum dies in hospital following shooting

Local representatives in Finglas say that the community is in "profound shock" after a mother-of-five was killed in a shooting incident last night.

Gardai and emergency services were called to a property at Collins Place, Finglas West, Dublin 11 at around 8.40pm on Saturday night.

Sandra Boyd was rushed to the Mater Mater Misericordiae University Hospital after being seriously injured, but passed away shortly afterwards.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Sinn Fein Councillor Anthony Connaghan described last night's shooting as "shocking."

He said: "It's really shocking and unfortunate because so much good goes on in the community here. It's St Patrick's weekend it should have been a great weekend and a young mother of five kids is after losing her life."

Cllr Connaghan said that they have been calling for extra garda resources in the community for some time, and that guns are very dangerous.

"It's very dangerous out there and it takes away from the community."

Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil Councillor Keith Connolly told Dublin Live that the young mother's death has caused great shock in the community.

Cllr Connolly said: "She was a mother of five young children and her youngest was not even two years old. At the end of the day five young children are now without a mother.

"It's harrowing, there is a profound level of shock in the community."

Cllr Connolly said that the family is very well known in the Finglas and Ballymun areas.

He said: "The family would be very well known in the Finglas and Ballymun areas. It happened in Finglas east, so it’s quite close to the village and it’s usually a very quiet area.

"My condolences go out to the family and my thoughts are with the five children."

Investigations are ongoing after last night's shooting but no arrests have yet been made.

Gardai are now appealing for anyone with dash cam footage of surrounding roads to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: "A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information on this fatal shooting to contact investigating Gardaí at Finglas Garda Station.

"An Garda Síochána are also appealing for any person driving in the area of Collins Park, Ballygall Road West or any adjacent/ surrounding roads between 8pm and 9.00pm, particularly drivers of any vehicle or other roads users who may have video footage (Dashcam, GoPro or other…) to contact investigating Gardaí.

"The Investigating Gardaí can be contacted at Finglas Garda Station 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
