Fine for driver who drove without due care and attention before horrific 'car meet' crash

A man was fined £190 after he was found guilty of driving without due care and attention. Ashley Walton, 28, Lime Tree Road, Hucknall, was found not guilty of dangerous driving but guilty to the alternative of driving without due care and attention after trial.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, April 29, receiving the fine, costs of £250, and four points on his licence. Co-accused, Mini Cooper driver Craig King, 40, of Norwich Gardens, Bulwell, was found guilty at the trial of causing serious injury to a man by dangerous driving. He will be sentenced on July 25.

King, who gave evidence on Thursday, March 17, had denied he was doing laps or racing before a man was seriously injured after a collision in Bingham where there was a car meet. King broke his wrists, his ribs, and his face was burned from the airbag in his unmodified black Mini, which he had got after trading in an "old and tired" Audi TT four days before the collision on June 3, 2018. King had never been to a "car meet", which the jury has heard involved people driving around and showing their cars off.
