Find out what's happening in your area for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Queen Elizabeth will be the first British monarch to sit on the throne for 70 years.

CELEBRATIONS for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee are set to take place across the UK from June 2 to 5.

The occasion marks the first time a British monarch has sat on the throne for 70 years.

As part of the celebrations, beacons will be lit all over the country in honour of the Queen.

There are estimated to be 174 events planned for the jubilee across Scotland compared to more than 2000 in England.

The number of events within different regions in Scotland is varied.

Aberdeenshire, home to the Queens’ private residence Balmoral, is hosting eight licensed outdoor events which are going to require road closures.

However, the only street party planned in South Lanarkshire is set to take place in Rutherglen.

In the Scottish Borders meanwhile, the council allocated £110,000 to its Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Fund in order to allow for the planning of small-scale events.

One event in Glasgow is the Include Me 2 Club Queen’s Jubilee fun day which will take place in Barrhead.

In Highland Perthshire, Dunkeld is hosting a full weekend of jubilee celebrations in Stanley Park as well as an exhibition at their Community Archives showing the history of royalty in the town.

There are thought to be 10 street parties taking place in the Inverness area.

Anyone wishing to find out what jubilee events are on so they can attend - or avoid - them should visit the Platinum Jubilee website.
