On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky to a two-year contract extension which in essence works out to be a three-year contract. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport has reported that the contract is three years and $19.4 million but could be worth as much as $33 million with incentives.
Trubisky’s new contract lowers his 2023 cap hit and makes keeping him on board as Kenny Pickett’s backup much more practical. I’m sure Trubisky would love to be on a team where he could compete for a starting job but for the Steelers it is great to have a talented, experienced guy like him on the depth chart.
Presumably, Trubisky will battle it out with Mason Rudolph for the backup job. Last season, Trubisky started the first three games of the season before being benched in favor of Pickett.
