Last month the final tree was planted by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Lady Susan Haughey CBE. to form the new Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Wood.
A commemorative plaque was also unveiled as guests from across Lanarkshire witnessed the planting, including Deputy Lieutenants of Lanarkshire, members of the Armed Forces, Cadet representatives, and partnering organisations.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Wood is a project spearheaded by Lady Haughey to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
In collaboration with the Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA), 2700 trees have been planted at Dechmont Range and Training Area to create the wood.
Dechmont Range and Training Area is a military training ground, managed on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, by Lowland RFCA. The site is just south of Cambuslang and is frequently used by both the military and civilians.
The wood will be one of Lanarkshire's legacies to honour the Queen's 70-year reign.
As part of the Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting initiative, groups are being encouraged to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.’
However, if a community group does not have access to suitable land, trees will be planted free of charge at Dechmont for them.
Lady Haughey told Lanarkshire Live : "I am thrilled to be planting the final tree of Platinum Jubilee Wood.
"This has been months in the making and demonstrates how Lanarkshire has come together to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
"In line with the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, we’ve been careful to plant native and sustainable trees which will leave a lasting environmental legacy for future generations."
