Finaghy Football Club trying to track down past players ahead of anniversary dinner

An Amateur League football club is trying to track down former players ahead of their 60th Anniversary dinner on May 21.

Finaghy FC were formed in 1962 by the members of Lowe Memorial Presbyterian Church, including the late Sam Devlin, a well-known official in junior football circles.

Originally known as Lowe Memorial YM, the club competed In the Churches League before joining the Amateur League in 1982.

Ten years later they changed their name to Finaghy FC.

The club's roll of honour includes winning the IFA Junior Cup in 1977, while they also celebrated back-to-back promotions from 2C up to 2A in 2015. and '16.

And on Saturday Finaghy celebrated becoming Division 2A champions.

Now they are preparing to celebrate that success and their proud history at an anniversary dinner later this month.

"We are appealing to any past players who we haven’t already contacted to reach out to see if they would like to attend our dinner and to see if they would have any old photos or stories to share," said chairman Robert Best.

"We are trying to contact some of our past players and some of those that won the Junior cup in 76/77.

"We have been in contact with a few but cannot find others."

The 60th Anniversary dinner and annual awards will be held at The Doyen, with special guest and impressionist Al Foran providing some entertainment.
