Filton fire: Crews rescue person from inside burning flat

One person had to be rescued after a fire at a South Gloucestershire flat.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to Broncksea Road, Filton, at 8.37pm on Monday (April 18). On arrival, fire crews found there was a fire on a first floor flat.

The fire service said one person was rescued from the flat with no injuries, adding they were assessed by the ambulance service. In a statement, the fire service said: "Crews from Southmead, Patchway and Temple were called to reports of a fire in a property at 20:37.

"On arrival, crews found a building of three floors used as residential flats, with a fire affecting the first floor flat. With four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, crews used two high pressure hose reels and a 45mm covering jet to extinguish the fire.

"A positive pressure ventilation fan was also used for smoke clearance, and the adjoining property was searched using a thermal imaging camera and gas monitor. One casualty was rescued from the flat with no injuries and was assessed by ambulance colleagues."

The statement did not specify the cause of the fire, nor the extent of the damage. Earlier this month, a woman died following a flat fire in Southmead.
