A "filthy" Leeds takeaway with fixtures "caked in dust and dirt" was told to thoroughly clean its toilet after it got a two-star hygiene rating.
Pizza King and Corriander in Horsforth was slammed by food hygiene inspectors who told management a "high level of cleaning" was necessary to operate safely. The inspectors, working on behalf of Leeds City Council, visited the Sunny Bank Avenue takeaway on April 4 and left a long list of demands of what needed cleaning.
The inspectors not only discovered dusty light fittings, greasy pipes and cables, but also fan grilles “caked in dust and dirt”. They ordered staff to: “Thoroughly clean the toilet compartment. Filthy sink and walls. Provide soap and hand drying facilities.”

They also told them to clean hand contact point, floors, food trays, dry spice containers, inside of fridges and freezer and the wash hand basin.
The staff's knowledge in food safety was deemed "inadequate" and they were also disappointed a written food safety system didn't seem to be in place. They found a food diary but the last entry was in August 2021.
They also found raw burgers stored on shelves next to cooked, ready to eat foods. They told them to cover food in the fridge and freezers, to put open containers of sauces in the fridge and to avoid using foil on shelves, as this risks contamination.
Pizza King and Corriander was asked for a comment.
