The documentary festival CPH:DOX is set to host its annual CPH:CONFERENCE, featuring renowned filmmakers and industry figures who will delve into the theme of 'rebuilding narratives.' Curated in partnership with Documentary Campus, the conference aims to explore the importance of independent documentaries and advocate for their resources and platforms.
Kicking off on March 18, the conference will commence with a special collaboration with the DISCO Network. This session, titled 'Our Declaration of Independence,' is a result of an initiative by Ambulante, AFLAMUNA, DocsMX, Doc Society, and other networks. Led by Jad Abi-Khalil and Beadie Finzi, the discussion will focus on emphasizing the value of independent documentaries in culture, society, and democracy.
Throughout the mornings of March 19-21, thought-provoking conversations with filmmakers featured in CPH:DOX's program will take place. In the 'A Morning With' session, moderated by Thom Powers, acclaimed filmmakers such as Alex Gibney, Johan Grimonprez, and Asmae El Moudir will reflect on their creative challenges, lessons learned, and innovative approaches to questioning the status quo.
In addition, the 'Filmmakers in Dialogue' segment, moderated by Wendy Mitchell, will provide a platform for directors like Alina Simone, Shiori Ito, and Sissel Dargis Morell to discuss their latest projects and engage in meaningful discussions.
Under the theme of 'Re:Building Narratives,' the afternoons at CPH:CONFERENCE will delve into documentary accessibility and equity. Sessions, led by Derren Lawford, Nanna Rebekka, and Kat Cizek, will explore the multifaceted aspects of this topic. The lineup boasts esteemed professionals like Victoria Thomas, Lizzie Gillet, Sigrid Dyekjær, Lisa Jackson, and Mila Aung-Thwin.
The conference will culminate with a session on climate justice in storytelling on March 22.
