Filippo Giraldi's transfer approach as Nottingham Forest confirm huge appointment

Newly-appointed Nottingham Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi has previously publically stated that there is "no shame in making mistakes" in the transfer market when reflecting on his time at Watford.

While at Vicarage Road, Giraldi has his greatest responsibility for recruitment and was credited with pulling off some notable coups during his eight years with Watford. Richarlison made his Premier League debut with the club after being signed for £11.2 million in the summer of 2017 and was sold to Everton for more than triple that less than twelve months later.

Midfielders Abdoulaye Doucouré was another brought to Hertfordshire for just shy of £10m and sold on for double that figure on the back of three-and-a-half seasons of top-flight football again to Everton. There were, though, less successful additions over the years such as striker Andre Gray, who signed for almost £20m from Burnley but scored just 21 goals in 125 appearances before finally leaving on a free transfer this summer.

Mistakes are all part-and-parcel of the position, of course. For Giraldi, it is about working tirelessly to minimise those mistakes as much as possible. “I try to be good at my job, and there is no shame in making mistakes," he told The Athletic last year.

"To make as few mistakes as possible, I need to not be lazy, to watch games more, even when I’m tired, to keep going, to keep watching."

What do you make of Giraldi's tireless approach? Have your say in the comments...
