Filip Helander a free agent again one year after Rangers exit

Filip Helander is to become a free agent once again just a year after leaving Rangers.

The Swedish centre-back created his own redemption arc last season after joining OB Odense in Denmark.

His form for his club side saw the 31-year-old earn a recall to the international scene after numerous injury issues at Ibrox.

His last game in a Rangers shirt came in April 2022 after he picked up a knock during a Scottish Premiership game at St Mirren. He failed to make a comeback on the pitch before leaving in the summer of 2023.

While things at Odense were going well for the defender, he didn't get off the bench on Saturday as his team was relegated from the Danish top flight.

Helander was only signed on a one-year deal but would've hoped to prolong his stay at a good level of football.

Now, it seems his future is up in the air again just 12 months on after uncertainty over his career.

Sporting director Enrico Augustinu confirmed his exit, saying: "Tom Trybull and Filip Helander have received (their) flowers."

Meanwhile, both Rangers and Aberdeen are interested in signing one of Europe's top young goalkeepers.

Stojan Lekovic, 22, plays for FK Radnicki Kragujevac in the Serbian top flight.

He recently extended his contract until December 2025 - but that was under one condition.

It's said that there is a gentlemen's agreement between the player and club that he will be given the go-ahead to leave this summer if any interest team pays a low six-figure fee.

Werder Bremen were interested in signing Lekovic until they renewed the contract of Michael Zetterer, who will be their No.1 for many years to come.

And Fussballeuropa.com reports that Lekovic's availability has alerted Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers and Aberdeen.

It's claimed that both teams are interested in making a move for him this summer.
