Holloway fire: Five rushed to hospital as 100 firefighters battle huge blaze at takeaway in north London

Five people have been hospitalised in a large fire at a takeaway restaurant in Holloway as more than 100 firefighters tackle the blaze.

Pictures show thick plumes of smoke rising from the fire on Seven Sisters Road, with local residents urged to keep their windows and doors closed.

Half of the ground floor, as well as part of two flats on the first and second floors were damaged, with the fire being brought under control as of 8am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said paramedics treated five people at the scene before rushing them to hospital.

Fifteen fire engines are tackling the fire, which began at around 3.45am.

LFB Station Commander Mike Watts, who is at the scene, said: "There are road closures in place and we urge people to avoid the area, particularly as we head into rush hour, due to congestion.

"The fire is producing a lot of smoke in the vicinity and local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed while we work to bring the fire under control."

The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of 19 calls to the fire at 3.45am and mobilised fire crews from Holloway, Kentish Town, Islington, Euston and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the LFB and the Metropolitan Police.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 03.51am today (Thursday) to reports of a fire on Seven Sisters Road.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.

“We treated five people at the scene and conveyed them to hospital.”
