Fife residents left isolated as vital bus service axed

WEST Fife residents have been left seeking answers after finding out the main bus service from Dunfermline to Alloa has been cancelled.

As reported last week, Stagecoach has introduced changes to its services to accommodate for the new Dunfermline Learning Campus.

This has resulted in the 8/8A service being axed at Culross, no longer serving Kincardine and Clackmannan.

It was previously reported that the replacement service, the new X22, would continue to serve these areas.

This has now been found to be incorrect, with Kincardine and Clackmannan now cut off from the main route from Dunfermline to Alloa.

Resident Colin Calder shared his unhappiness with the decision, saying he has been left wondering what alternative arrangements would need to be made.

He said: “Everyone assumed that the new buses would be coming through Kincardine but it’s not even coming through Clackmannan either.

“It’s quite a shock having no buses come from Culross and Valleyfield especially since Alloa is our nearest town.

“We need to go there to use our banks, the shops, the job centres, people work in Alloa so this isn’t good at all.”

Stagecoach had initially announced a replacement bus service, the X22, which would run from Dunfermline to Alloa and on to Stirling.

This, alongside the other changes Stagecoach have planned for Dunfermline and west Fife, come into effect on August 19.

The X22 will be in operation from July 29, but will only travel to Oakley and Blairhall before going to Alloa.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “Our proposed service changes from August 2024 are primarily improvements to the local area, however to improve the longer term sustainability of the bus network across Fife, we’re also looking to revise some lesser used routes and we appreciate these proposals may cause inconvenience or involve change for some people.

“We’re currently working with Fife Council regarding a bus service for residents in Kincardine and wish to travel to Alloa, Culross or High Valleyfield, and will announce any updates on our website.

“Our X24 and X27 continue to provide journeys up to every 30 minutes between Kincardine and Dunfermline, or west bound to Larbert, Cumbernauld and Glasgow.”
