FIFA World Cup trophy to visit Dublin in May

Irish fans can catch a glimpse of the Women’s World Cup trophy when it lands in the country as part of FIFA's World Cup Trophy Tour.

The trophy will visit each of the 32 qualified nations on a tour that begins later this month in Japan.

Key dates on the tour schedule include stops in China on March 9-11, South Africa on March 22 and 23, Brazil on March 29 and 30, Germany on May 2 and 3, England on May 13 and 14 and France on May 20 and 21.

A one-day visit to Ireland has been pencilled in for May 10.

Along with a chance to get up close to the silverware, fans can take part in skills drills and take part in challenges set by Female Football Freestyle world champion Lia Lewis.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to experience the most coveted prize in women’s football in person and hear from the game’s legends,” FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said.

“The tour will inspire people worldwide by shining a spotlight on the skills and creativity that demonstrate why women’s football has such a bright future.”
