FIFA primed for Scotland vs Ukraine action with Gianni Infantino 'very worried' about World Cup playoff

President Gianni Infantino insists FIFA are ready to step in ahead of Scotland 's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine.

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia that has placed world on high alert and the football authorities are no different.

The Ukrainian top flight has been put on hold with the country under martial law while UEFA have held crisis meetings over the impact on the game.

The Champions League Final venue will also be discussed by European football's powerbrokers with the showpiece fixture due to take place in St Petersburg.

However, FIFA are also keeping tabs on the game ahead of the playoff at Hampden.

The Ukranian top flight won't resume until 26 March - two days after Ukraine are due to travel to Glasgow.

Infantino insists the governing body will take swift action should it be required, stating: “We’re very worried about the situation.

FIFA express hope for a rapid cessation of hostilities and for peace in Ukraine. We condemn the use of force by Russia in Ukraine and any type of violence.

“We call on all parties to restore peace through constructive dialogue.

“Of course Fifa continues to express solidarity to the people affected by this conflict.

“We continue to monitor the situation and we will communicate updates with regarding the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers soon.

“The FIFA bureau is in charge of dealing with these matters and can take decisions immediately as soon as it’s needed."
