FIFA have approved plans that will dramatically change the future of the Club World Cup competition away from the current format from 2025 onwards. The current tournament involves seven teams, one from each continent's governing body and one from the host nation.
However, after a proposal from FIFA president Gianni Infantino in December, there was an idea of expanding the format to involve more teams. The changes that have been pushed through will include 32-teams from June 2025, including some teams that have now qualified.
As the winners of the past two Champions League campaigns, Real Madrid and Chelsea are already entered into the tournament for two-years time. On top of those two teams, there will also be the winners of this season's Champions League as well as the victors of the campaign after.

It means that, much like the international World Cup, the competition will take place every four years and will increase revenues for those involved. This will mean a slight alteration to the international fixture list as of 2025 though, due to the usual games that take place during the month.
While Chelsea are already involved in the inaugural competition, Tottenham and Arsenal could also find themselves involved if they qualify. The two teams would have to make their way into next season's Champions League and win the trophy, a tough task but not beyond possibility.
It remains to be seen exactly how popular this move will prove to be though, especially given the concerns managers and players have over the current schedule without the additional games.
