Regarding your report (Fifa rejects request for monitoring of migrant workers’ conditions in Saudi Arabia, 27 January), Fifa has not rejected anything.

With the bidding processes complete, we stated to the African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) that we would work with counterparts with the aim to ensure commitments are upheld.

We will engage with international labour organisations throughout the process.

Fifa has implemented far-reaching human rights due diligence measures in the context of its tournaments since 2016 and continues to build on these systems and experiences.

Director of media, Fifa
