FIFA and DAZN have agreed a staggering $1 billion deal over the broadcasting rights to the 2025 Club World Cup.
FIFA & DAZN Agree $1bn Deal Over 2025 Club World Cup
The popular streaming service will show the 2025 Club World Cup after agreeing the deal, which was agreed with FIFA for around £787m ($1bn).
The tournament will hold 32 teams and each of the 63 matches will be shown on DAZN for free, as it looks to continue its rise in the world of football.
Gianni Infantino, president at FIFA, reportedly contacted a host of TV broadcasters over the upcoming tournament but could not agree a deal before confirming with DAZN.
England will have two representatives at the tournament, as Chelsea and Manchester City earned a spot for their performances in the Champions League over the last four years.
Footballing icon, Lionel Messi, will also be in attendance, as MLS side Inter Miami are the only representative from CONCACAF.
Infantino spoke on the recent deal between DAZN and FIFA, claiming it would be the most accessible club football tournament of all time.
He said: “It was imperative for FIFA to ensure that as many football fans across the world could follow the action, and this agreement with DAZN guarantees that in terms of broadcasting, the new FIFA Club World Cup will be the most widely accessible club football tournament ever.
“The new FIFA Club World Cup is a merit-based, inclusive tournament that will be the pinnacle of global club football, capturing the imagination of players and fans across the world.”
The 2025 Club World Cup will boast clubs from each of the six continental confederations and will be played in the United States for the first time.
As previously mentioned, Chelsea and Manchester City will be competing after winning the Champions League in 2021 and 2023 respectively – with both likely to be one of the favourites to win the competition on UK betting sites.
It will run from June 15th to July 13th in 2025, with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid also entering.
Al-Hilal, Boca Juniors and River Plate will also be entering the competition and the draw for the tournament is set to take place on Thursday 5th December.
Manchester City, who are the current Club World Cup champions, will be in pot 1 alongside Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Flamengo, Palmeiras, River Plate and Fluminense all in there.
Pot 2 includes Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Juventus and RB Salzburg.
While pot 3 and 4 will include a host of star names including Al-Hilal and Inter Miami – meaning we could see Messi and Neymar in action.
