EA Sports have mistakingly released the 2022 FIFA World Cup game mode early in FIFA 23 on PS5, despite it's release not being scheduled for a few more weeks.
FIFA 23 was released worldwide on Friday, September 30, 2022, with all game modes becoming available, except for the 2022 FIFA World Cup game mode. EA announced in the build-up to FIFA 23's release that they have the rights to the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Qatar later this year.
As well as the men's tournament, they also have the rights to the women's 2023 World Cup, allowing players to play the tournaments and used World Cup themed items in-game. But, players on PS5 have started to take to social media showing that they now have access to the 2022 FIFA World Cup game mode.
Players on PS5 are posting images on social media of the World Cup themed game mode, and it appears there are four different ways to play the World Cup. In a photo posted by Twitter user @AllFifamistakes, it's visible that players can access FIFA World Cup Live, FIFA World Cup Kick-Off, Online Tournament and FIFA World Cup 2022.
Based on this, it appears that players will be able to play the 2022 FIFA World Cup online against other players, or they can play in offline modes. The game mode, FIFA World Cup Live, appears to update with live scores during the tournament, dubbed as 'the foundation for new ways to play'.
It also appears there are 48 teams to use in the FIFA World Cup game mode, meaning players aren't limited to the 32 who qualified. Right now, players can only access the menus, with matchmaking not available.
This is a major error made by EA, with the World Cup mode not meant to be released for at least another few weeks. This isn't the first error made by EA since FIFA 23's release, with a 25k tradable pack recently appearing in the FUT 23 store containing one FUT Heroes player item.
FIFA 23 is developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PS4, and Xbox One.
