FIFA 23 Career Mode new features include real managers and playable highlights

EA Sports has released their second FIFA 23 deep dive ahead of its release later this year, this time covering Career Mode.

FIFA 23 will be the final FIFA game released by EA Sports following the end of their 30-year partnership with FIFA. Ahead of the official release of the game on Sunday, September 30, 2022, EA has been releasing weekly deep dives on what to expect in FIFA 23, with last week giving players an in-depth look at the gameplay.

This week, EA released an official Career Mode trailer and deep dive, going into detail about what to expect in the Career Mode game mode in FIFA 23. Some of the highlights included the ability to control a real-life manager and a huge refresh to personality in Player Career Mode.

So, what new information was released in the FIFA 23 Career Mode trailer? Let's take a look.

FIFA 23 Career Mode - what's new?

Playable Highlights

After adding the interactive simulation to Manager Career Mode in FIFA 21, EA has added even more control to how much time you put into each game with the new gameplay format, Playable Highlights. The new format will allow players to take control of just the key moments in the match such as important attacking and defensive plays whilst letting the match engine simulate the rest of the game.

To make this work and as realistic as possible, EA's in-depth background system will analyse both sides for each game, judging their strengths and weaknesses along with the overall rating, fitness, sharpness and morale. FIFA 23 will then use the data to generate a number of scoring chances for each team, giving the player to take control over just the key moments.

In Manager Career, players can choose whether to play all the highlights or just the attacking ones. In Player Career, you can choose to either control the entire team for the Playable Highlights or just the player you control, meaning you will only be given highlights that directly involve your player.

Main Menu

EA has redesigned the menu in FIFA 23 career mode, meaning you won't need to go through pages of different menus to try and find what you are looking for. More contextual information such as squad depth, players whose contracts are about to expire, or the most promising players in your Youth Academy have also been brought forward.

Dynamic Moments

With EA putting a big emphasis on cinematics in FIFA 23, Career Mode will see much more cutscenes than before when players experience Dynamic Moments. There are seven bespoke Dynamic Moments players can experience in Career Mode in an attempt to make the game more immersive and memorable.

Pre-season tournament format

EA has revamped the structure of pre-season in career mode to try and help benefit your player or team more in-game. Now, eight teams will play three games with only the winner claiming prize money, and the games will fall closer to the first game of the season to help boost match sharpness.

Manager Career

A new feature coming to FIFA 23 Manager Career Mode is that players can now control authentic managers, with over 350 to choose from. You can customise the manager's outfit and decide which club they will take control of, creating endless possibilities of creative saves.

There's also a new feature to help with transfer negotiations in FIFA 23, Transfer Analyst. The Transfer Analyst will assess the financial and squad impact of the player's transfer business before providing a rating between A (being the best) and F (being the worst) to judge your transfer skills as a manager.

The Transfer Analyst will show you how close you were to the selling club's minimum acceptance fee for a player, helping improve your judgement for the next time you enter the transfer market. When buying players, the Transfer Analysis will judge how good of a signing the player was for the squad, and when selling it will do the same, analysing factors such as squad depth to recommend purchasing a replacement or promoting a player who's already in the team.

Another new feature is a tension meter when negotiating in Manager Career Mode. This will help avoid any premature departures from negotiations.

FIFA 23 also provides more customisation, giving managers the ability to create custom third kits and goalkeeper kits. And in Create Your Club, you can now customise the squad before you start your career, including the player names, height, weight, body appearance, preferred position, attributes and animations.

Player Career

In FIFA 23, your player will have a personality system that helps define your player's character based on your activity both on and off the pitch. By acting and performing in a certain way, players will earn personality points to help expand their personality, giving players access to benefits.

There's a whole new personality system in FIFA 23 Player Career Mode (EA SPORTS FIFA)

The three types of personalities players can have are Maverick, Virtuoso and Heartbeat. Mavericks are players who like to focus more on themselves whilst chasing stardom on and off the pitch with a lavish lifestyle.

Virtuosos are skilful, intelligent and humble players who are extremely focused on their performance over anything else. These players use their finances to help their athletic goals over anything else.

And lastly, the Heartbeat is a selfless, team player on the pitch who cares more about the team's achievement over individual. Like on the pitch, financially they help a lot of charitable purposes and don't spend too much on themselves.

Not only will players be given decisions to be made on the pitch, but also off. How will you spend your money? Will you visit an injured teammate in recovery, or will you just ignore him? Every decision made will impact your player in FIFA 23.
