Disneyland Resort Unveils a Fan Favorite Attraction

Many of Disney's (DIS) animated films, including "Frozen," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King," "Tarzan" and "The Little Mermaid," as well as live-action films "Mary Poppins" and "Newsies" have been transformed into Broadway musical productions. Disney has been nominated for 62 Tony Awards and has won 20 awards for its 10 Broadway productions that have been staged over the years.

Disney has also brought the characters of its many films to life in various stage shows within its theme parks over the years as well.

Disney World's Animal Kingdom in Orlando has staged "The Festival of the Lion King" musical performance in Africa, featuring favorite music like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and dancing, acrobatics and stunts. It currently presents "Finding Nemo: The Big Blue...And Beyond" at DinoLand U.S.A. for three daily 25-minute shows featuring puppets, signers and other performers.

Disney World Hosts Musical Shows

Disney World's Hollywood Studios hosts "Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage" at Sunset Boulevard for 30-minute Broadway musical-style shows three times a day, as well as "For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration" in an hour-long musical celebration three times a day at Echo Lake.

Each year in January and February, Disney World's Epcot brings back its popular Disney on Broadway Concert Series to the American Gardens Theater during the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. The shows feature two Broadway performers staging three shows each day singing selections from various Disney Broadway shows.

Disneyland's Fantasyland Theater in Anaheim, Calif., continuously presents musical stage shows. In the 1990s, one could expect to watch "The Spirit of Pocahontas," or "Animazement - The Musical." There was also a three-day engagement featuring "The Wiggles Live at Disneyland in 1998, according to Fandom.

"Snow White: An Enchanting Musical" was featured at Fantasyland Theater February 2004 to September 2006, and "Princess Fantasy Faire" had a long residency from October 2006 to August 2012. "Mickey and the Magical Map" was staged from May 2013 to March 2012. "Tale of the Lion King" was introduced in May 2022, and continues in the theater at Disneyland.

Life Imitates Art at Disneyland Resort

When 19th Century Irish playwright and poet Oscar Wilde wrote "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life" in his essay, "The Decay of Lying," he had no idea his words would apply to the Disneyland Resort.

Life will imitate art at Disneyland Resort's California Adventure when the fictional "Rogers: The Musical," which debuted in the first episode of the Disney+ series "Hawkeye," is transformed into a real-life, all-new short 30 minute one-act theater production at the Hyperion Theater in the theme park for a limited-time engagement beginning June 30.

In the first "Hawkeye" episode, viewers saw a Broadway musical theater sequence featuring the life of Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. The Disney+ performance prompted Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, to present a pop-up version of the fictional musical's "Save the City" number, based on the battle of New York from the first Avengers film, at the D23 Expo in September.

The Disney+ and D23 performances received such positive feedback that Disney will present the limited-time production at California Adventure as part of the Disney100 anniversary celebration at the Disneyland Resort.

The show's musical productions will include “Save the City,” from the Disney+ series “Hawkeye”; “Star Spangled Man” from the film “Captain America: The First Avenger”; and five new original songs written for “Rogers: The Musical."
