The devastated fiancée of the journalist who was shot dead last week while on the clock wants to have his baby and is raising funds to achieve this.
Casey Fite was left heartbroken at the news of Dylan Lyons' untimely death on February 22 in Orlando, Florida, when he was gunned down alongside a nine-year-old girl.
Struggling to come to terms with her fiancé's loss, Ms Fite has now said she needs the public's donations in order to have his baby.
She says that all they wanted was to start a family together, but their dreams were cut short when the "love of her life" was tragically killed.
The night Mr Lyons passed away, Ms Fite said she researched the possibility of harvesting his sperm, and she contacted several doctors until she found one who could perform the procedure within a 24-hour period.
According to Ms Fite, the doctor was able to retrieve eight vials of Mr Lyons' sperm, giving her the hope of having the baby they both wanted so desperately.
The couple met back in 2020 when Mr Lyons, who would have been 25 years old in March, was working at TV20 in Gainesville, Florida, and Ms Fite has said that from the moment they met, she knew that he "was someone special".
They started dating in November 2021 and had their entire lives planned out. The couple wanted nothing more than to get married and have children.
"Dylan would have been the best dad in the world," Ms Fite wrote on a GoFundMe page. "I am devastated that he can't be here for what we always wanted, but I want to keep his legacy alive by having our baby."
Ms Fite's determination to have their baby has inspired many people who have started donating to her cause, and so far, she has collected $1,888 (£1,580) from 28 donators out of a $50,000 (£41,840) goal.
Ms Fite is now planning to undergo IVF to have the baby that she and Mr Lyons always wanted.
Another fundraiser was set up by Mr Lyons' sister, in order to raise money to cover the expenses of his funeral.
The suspect in his killing, 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses has been charged with murder after the incident that left three dead, including a woman and nine-year-old T’yonna Major.
The girl's mother and video journalist Jesse Walden, who worked for Spectrum News 13 together with Mr Lyons, were injured.
That day, investigators said Moses fatally shot a woman identified as Nathacha Augustin seconds after the car she was riding in stopped to offer him a ride.
A witness in the car described Moses as “acting strange” and sweating before the shooting. He ran after the shooting and hours later returned to the scene while television crews were working on a story about the shooting, authorities said.
Investigators said Moses first went into a nearby house, where he shot tragic T’yonna, a child gymnast, and her mother, who survived.
The mother told investigators she woke up to her daughter yelling, “he shot me,” as she ran and jumped on her bed, the warrant said. She said the man then shot her in the arm.
She told investigators she barricaded herself and her daughter in the master bedroom until deputies arrived.
She said T'Yonna described the suspect and said he had come through the rear door to the home, the warrant said. The mother said she normally kept the doors locked but sometimes left them unlocked after letting the dog out.
T'Yonna died at a hospital a short time after the shooting.
After leaving the Major's house, the suspect walked to the vehicle belonging to the Spectrum News 13 crew, where he fatally shot the reporter Mr Lyons and critically wounded the video journalist, Mr Walden.
