Festival with 'pro-level' acts could come to Liverpool despite objections

A festival featuring tribute acts to six of the world’s biggest bands has applied to come to Liverpool.

Fake Festival brings “pro-level” acts performing hits from the catalogue of well-known groups that have been a mainstay in the charts for years. An application has been made to Liverpool Council ’s licensing sub-committee for the event to make its debut at The Mystery in Wavertree in May.

The proposals include a one-day festival featuring live music from midday to 11pm on Saturday May 28. The premises will be open to the public from 11.45am until 11pm with alcohol for the consumption on site available until 10.45pm.

According to the application, the site will be located on Wavertree Playground, Wellington Rd with a marquee and fenced area. Objections have been made to the plan by residents claiming the level of noise would be “totally unacceptable.”

One said: “I for one am strongly opposed to this awful noise disturbing my family again this summer. I as a council tax payer do not believe I should have to be subjected to this nuisance noise.”

A second objection claimed the sale of alcohol during the event would “promote crime and disorder” while claiming that using Wavertree Playground to stage the event would remove the amenity of a gifted area for children to play safely. It was also said that the venue lacks the transport infrastructure or parking required for a festival of its kind.

Should the application be given the go-ahead by committee members on Wednesday April 6, performers from acts covering U2, Duran Duran, Kings of Leon, James, Kasabian and The Police would take to the stage in the summer. As per the event’s website, food will be provided by allocated traders with a variety of entertainment stalls outside the venue, should a licence be granted by councillors.

No objections have been received from Merseyside Police, environmental health and safety or the licensing authority ahead of next week’s meeting.
