ORGANISERS were left devastated after a Hawick festival event had to be abandoned at the weekend because of high winds.
Health and safety concerns forced the cancellation of the town’s Reivers Festival at the Wee Haugh on Saturday afternoon, March 29.
Forty stallholders had gathered with various re-enactments planned, in addition to local group performances and a 16th century encampment.
But stallholders had to pack up rapidly as the weather conditions led to gazebos flying everywhere.
A festival organiser said: “We are devastated not only as a committee but also for all the stall holders and performers.”
Fortunately, a fireworks and torchlight parade on Saturday evening was able to go-ahead as planned.
