Festival delight as hundreds enjoy popular Lanarkshire fun day in the sun

Hundreds of people turned out for a day of fun and laughter as Hamilton residents enjoyed one of the most popular events in the town.

This year’s Hillhouse Festival, rebranded after being previously known as the Hillhouse Fun Day, saw locals young and old come along for the much-anticipated event, packed with lots of activities.

It took place on Saturday, August 27, after promising to be bigger and better than ever before, leading up to the annual celebration.

And it didn’t disappoint, with plenty of entertainment on display in the glorious sunshine.

Run by Hillhouse Community Council, the event was a huge success all round with revellers enjoying a host of free fairground rides, a funhouse, go-karts, face-painting, a live evening concert and lots more.

Live music and DJs proved very popular in the latter parts of the day with some special guest performances.

This year, the fun day started an hour earlier for a quiet hour aimed at accommodating for youngsters with neurodivergence.

Thanking everyone involved, Hillhouse Community Council chairman Tom Skilling said: “What an amazing day we had at the Hillhouse Festival.

“We hope everyone had a great time! A big thank you to all the volunteers who give up their time to make this happen.

“Also a thank you to The National Lottery and Arnold Clark for their funding, without which the event wouldn’t happen.

"And the biggest thank you to all the people who came along and made the day worth all the hard work!!!

"Hope to see you all next year."

Local dignitaries popped along on the day to join in the fun including South Lanarkshire Provost Margaret Cooper, and Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon.

Ms Lennon said: "It was a real pleasure to attend the Hillhouse Festival at the weekend.

"A huge amount of work was carried out by Hillhouse Community Council and local volunteers to make the day possible.

"It really was a community effort that showcased the very best of Hillhouse and the local area - well done to everyone involved in making it such a success."
