Ferne McCann broke down in tears on This Morning as she issued a grovelling apology over the voice note scandal she found herself caught up in last year, while explaining that she couldn't share the 'whole truth' of what happened for legal reasons.
Last year, former The Only Way is Essex and I'm A Celebrity star Ferne hit the headlines as derogatory voice notes, purported to have been sent by her were shared on Instagram. Ferne, star of ITV series First Time Mum came under fire as she allegedly made vile comments about one time best friend and fellow TOWIE star Sam Faiers. Social media users heard Sam being described as "a fat c**t," with one voice note continuing: "Sam Faiers is a fat c***. Her thighs are so big and I looked really skinny today and... yeah."
In another voice note made public on Instagram, Ferne appeared to call Sam a 'narcissistic b**ch," with, someone sounding a lot like her, heard saying; ""That's the sort of girl that she is. She's just a narcissistic b***h. She honestly won't care," Ferne can be heard saying. It's an exact copy. It's just so sh*t on people that have worked hard to just - because she has a big following. It's just ridiculous. It's out of order."
Ferne was condemned by people including Sam's mum, Suzie Wells, for the voice notes, with Suzie saying she was "deeply hurt" by what she heard.
Appearing on This Morning on Wednesday, ahead of the launch of First Time Mum's new series, Ferne told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that she couldn't give her 'full truth' due to an ongoing criminal investigation, but said the voice notes were sent at a time when she was 'very vulnerable.'
Issuing a tearful apology live on air, Ferne said: "It wasn't my finest hour and it definitely was a very difficult time in my life when those voice notes were leaked. I need to take this opportunity to publicly apologise again to those affected," she began.
"Obviously the words I used where unpleasant, but I have reached out privately to those people. It's very difficult - I'd love to sit here with you guys and with my followers and share exactly what went on, but it's now part of a criminal investigation."
She added: "I can't do that but what I can say is, these voice notes were from a time when I was in a very vulnerable situation and it was a very very difficult situation for me, five or six years ago. Since then, I've done a lot of work on myself."
