Fern Britton 'throws shade' at Holly and Phil as 'cryptic' tweet leaves fans speculating

Fern Britton has left fans speculating after a tweet left some convinced that she was making a dig at Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield amid reports of a "feud" between the pair.

The former This Morning presenter, who co-hosted the ITV show alongside Phillip between 2002 and 2009 before being replaced by Holly, made the comment hours after the duo returned to their hosting duties in Monday's episode, showing no signs of the supposed fall-out. Last week, insiders had claimed that Holly and Phil's close friendship had "cooled" in recent months, to the extent that the pair were "barely speaking" off-camera.

The rumours were quickly rubbished by Phil, who issued a statement calling Holly his "rock" and saying that the two remain "the best of friends". But this didn't stop ex-This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes weighing in on the situation as he hit out at his former co-stars on Monday.

Speaking on GB News, Eamonn said: "I think there should have been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors. The public surely will suss that there's no chemistry, that it's a broken fit between the two of them and that This Morning does not depend on who presents it."

He added: "It's an institution, it will carry on no matter who presents it and anyone can check the viewing figures, there's no difference between whether they present it or anyone else." And a timely comment from Fern, revealing that she had caught up with Eamonn later that day, led fans to believe that she was "throwing shade" at Holly and Phil.

Taking to Twitter on Monday evening, Fern wrote: "Unexpected calls from old mates are so lovely. Just had the loveliest catch up with @EamonnHolmes. I think we have known each other since the 80s when we were babies [laughing emoji]. Shooting the breeze [heart emojis]."

Given the pair's shared This Morning history and Eamonn's earlier comments, Fern's tweet left many speculating that Holly and Phil may have been the topic of conversation. "Did you have a nice chat? Bet you're both cackling over Phillip," one person quipped in response.

Another person cheekily replied: "Mmm, wonder what hot topic of conversation you giggled and snorted about."

"So much in common to catch up on I imagine," someone else remarked.

And another fan joked: "So nice to have chat about... current affairs."
