Fern Britton's 'loaded comment' aimed at old co-star Phillip Schofield sends fans wild

Former This Morning star Fern Britton teased fans as she revealed she’s had the “loveliest catch up” with Phillip Schofield ’s rival Eamonn Holmes, just hours after the GB News presenter took aim at the under-fire star.

Fern appeared to further stir the pot after former ITV colleagues appeared to turn on Phillip amid his reported feud with Holly Willoughby.

The father-of-two, 61, was back on the sofa today with Holly, 42, after a source told the Mirror the presenter was ‘deeply upset’ after Phil released a public statement about their friendship following reports of a rift.

We revealed ITV bosses would be prepared to sack Phil from his role on the shows he and Holly co-present should viewers notice their "chemistry" had changed.

And now former presenter Fern, 65, has added her two cents into the mix, revealing she’s had the “loveliest catch up” with rival Eamonn, just hours after he launched an attack on the telly personality.

She tweeted on Monday evening: “Unexpected calls from old mates are so lovely.

“Just had the loveliest catch up with @EamonnHolmes.

“I think we have known each other since the 80’s when we were babies [crying laughing emoji]. Shooting the breeze [three red love heart emojis].”

Fans were quick to respond to the tweet, with one quipping: “Did you have a nice chat? Bet you’re both cackling over Phillip.”

“Mmmm wonder what hot topic of conversation you giggled and snorted about,” another speculated.

“Did you discuss things like Karma and how truth always finds a way out? I love deep and meaningful convos like that!” a third wrote.

"The shade," one Twitter user simply replied, as another added: "A loaded tweet."

Fern’s stirring tweet came just hours after former ITV star Eamonn pipped up with his opinion on the reported This Morning fall out on his GB News show.

Ex- This Morning host Eamonn said he reckoned Holly and Phil should have been recognised at Sunday night's BAFTA TV Awards for the 'best actor' award.

Speaking on his show, he said: "I think there should have been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors.

"They may or may not be together on the telly today. The public surely will suss that there's no chemistry, that it's a broken fit between the two of them and that This Morning does not depend on who presents it.

"It's an institution, it will carry on no matter who presents it and anyone can check the viewing figures, there's no difference between whether they present it or anyone else."

In a recent statement, Phil said things 'hadn't been easy for him' and called Holly his "rock", claiming: "We're the best of friends - as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I've been there for her."

Holly became the presenter of This Morning after seasoned host Fern Britton quit.

She was said to have fallen out with Phil after her friends claimed she felt "undervalued by ITV " and that she was "living in Phil's shadow".

In his autobiography, Life Is What You Make It, Phil addressed a blazing row he had with Fern, which he believes was the final nail in the coffin.

He said he argued with Fern in a makeup room in 2009 over the content of a show – and was "stunned" when she accused him of "meddling."

The frost reportedly thawed between the pair, but when Phil and Holly were accused of jumping the queue to see the late Queen lying in state last year, Fern quipped: "There’s a VIP line?", leading fans to believe she still wasn't a fan of Phil's.
