Fermanagh family step aside from well-known country restaurant after 25 years

A well-known Co Fermanagh business is to move into new ownership after the local family who have run it for the last quarter of a century are to move on.

The Martin family from Belcoo will be departing the Customs House Country Inn in the village after almost 25 years at its helm.

Husband and wife team Donal and Clara have been behind the restaurant and inn for that time, but will hand Customs House to its new owners this week.

The family said it had invested its ‘heart and soul’ into the popular business.

“The time has come for us to say goodbye,” the family said in a social media post..

“In order to spend more time with family and friends, we need the next chapter of the Customs House Country Inn to be written by someone else.

“We want to thank you, our most wonderful staff (past & present), customers, suppliers, family and friends for your support and loyalty over the past 25 years in a business where we invested our heart and soul.

“Each and every one of you has contributed to the story that has made the Customs House Country Inn, Belcoo, the most amazing success.”

The family added they would cherish the memories made over the last 25 years.

“What a treasure trove of memories and tales we have accumulated over the years; we will cherish them forever.

“The sale of the Customs House is a game changer for us and we have no idea what life will be like without its presence in our lives.

“There is, however, no doubt that the new owners will build on our legacy with the same outstanding food, accommodation and customer service.

“We wish them every success on their journey... here's to the next 25 chapters for them and for us!”

Well wishers on their Facebook page paid tribute to the Martin family after their last weekend over the restaurant.

“The Customs House has become such a special place for us over the last 25 years bringing us through the happiest and saddest times in our lives and everything in between with the best food and the most brilliant staff,” one person said.

“Thank you so much to Clara , Donal and Kieran for your years of hard work that built up the fantastic business for us all to enjoy! Hope you all get a good rest now.”
