Ferguson provides Balogun fitness update after naming team to face Fenerbahce

Interim Rangers head coach Barry Ferguson says starting against Fenerbahce this evening was too much for Leon Balogun.

The central defender recently returned from a long-term injury, making his comeback in a 2-1 loss to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Balogun came on for the second half of the defeat and is once more on the bench as Rangers return to European action this evening.

Speaking to club media ahead of the match, boss Ferguson opened up on the Nigerian's fitness: "It was a bit too much for him [Balogun] to make the game tonight in terms of starting," he said.

"But hopefully, in the coming days, he'll be available for selection."

Ferguson has made two alterations from Saturday's game, with John Souttar and Connor Barron coming into the starting lineup.

Both Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz have got the nod, too. Ferguson teased a potential change of setup for tonight's first leg: "I don't want to give too much away," he said.

"You've got to be respectful of the opponent.

"I'm sure you might see a few surprises tonight."
