Ferguson outlines number of players Rangers must sign to close gap on Celtic

Barry Ferguson believes Rangers need to sign ten new players this summer.

Michael Beale is set for a busy few months ahead as Ibrox boss with the transfer window open in June.

The Ibrox club has suffered a poor season and will finish it trophyless come the final kick of a ball at the end of this month.

Rangers were defeated yet again by Celtic at the weekend, with Jota netting the only goal of their Scottish Cup semi-final tie.

Beale vowed once more that this summer is set to be the 'biggest transfer rebuild in years' at the club.

And Ferguson has echoed the manager's thoughts. He told Go Radio: "It's the same thing we say after the last few Old Firm games - frustrated, disappointed.

"And now Michael Beale has got five games to have a look at probable players who have not had a lot of game time and see who are the ones going to carry on into next season. Then going into next season, it's a big summer for Rangers.

"I've maintained change is needed, there's a lot of surgery needed to this squad. And I said four or five players, but now I'm looking at double that. So it's going to be a big summer ahead for Rangers.

"I think there's change needed, no doubt about it."
