Fenwick unveils themed club nights and Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Jubilee afternoon teas and a Platinum Party will be among the attractions on offer at the new Arthur's Restaurant & Music Club at Fenwick, it has been announced.

The Newcastle store has now revealed the programme of events for its newly-opened club which launched this May with a Prohibition-theme night of food, drink and entertainment. Occupying the area of the former Tivoli cafe on the first floor, the transformed space now captures the mood of a retro-style club with its music backdrop, luxurious furnishings and candlelit atmosphere.

The club is named after Arthur Fenwick, son of the store's founder, who had a passion for the circus and this is echoed in the club's name-sign and colours - as well as in an adjacent costume exhibition which is also a new addition to mark Fenwick's 170-year anniversary year. Following its launch this May, the club has announced the themes of other club nights which are to run over two evenings roughly a month apart.

The upcoming events - to take place on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm until 10pm - will be a Havana Night on July 1-2; Let's Cabaret on July 22-23; DJ Beats on August 26-27 and Future Sounds on September 23-24. In between the club will be transformed again for day-time afternoon teas which will be on offer on selected weekends and will include a special Platinum Jubilee event.

A spokesperson said the entertainment venue will become " an elegant oasis of tea and cake" where guests can enjoy an "Arthur's spin" on afternoon tea with listening to a live pianist. There will be a £25 option - including sandwiches with a twist on traditional flavours, "circus-inspired fine patisseries" and miniature scones with clotted cream and Fenwick's own jam - plus a £32.50 option to include a glass of fizz.

An Arthur's Jubilee Afternoon Tea - described as a "party fit for a queen" - will take place on June 2, as part of the Bank Holiday celebrations to mark Her Majesty's 70-year reign. Costing £35, it will include a sparkling cocktail on arrival, a "regal banquet of savoury delights and the very finest patisserie" plus entertainment from a musical trio comprising a pianist, drums and bass.

Then Arthur's Platinum Party will get under way on June 3 and 4, from 6.45pm-10pm, promising two extravagant evenings - with a nod to street parties around the UK - to include a wine-paired three-course meal taking inspiration from the store's historical celebration menus such as that from the Fenwick Centenary Dinner in 1982; Royal Show Luncheon in 1954 and Queen's Silver Jubilee Dinner in 1977.

It will also include jubilee-inspired cocktails - a blend of gin, dubonnet, apricot liqueur and ginger - and music by the Backstage Brass band which mixes classic and modern tunes.
