Fenwick re-launches rooftop restaurant with new al fresco menu

Spring is in the air and Fenwick in the city centre is re-launching its rooftop restaurant with a fresh new menu and is also busy planning a new season of live events.

The Newcastle department store is revamping the food and drink offering at Roof Thirty Nine, to complement its al fresco setting, and changes include imaginative new dishes now that it has a charcoal grill and oven installed, as well as spring-inspired cocktails. It's all about the new season and is aimed at catering for customers from day-time into evening.

At the same time, Fenwick is launching a series of live style events, which will welcome special guest design experts for events and talks just at the time of year when many people think about spring-cleaning and revamping their home interiors.

Roof Thirty Nine opened at the top of Fenwick in 2021 and it says its spring menu for 2023 will feature dishes designed to capture 'the flavours and spirit of the season' and to complement the al fresco rooftop setting. Diners will be able to expect options ranging from light salads to grilled meats and the likes of a 10oz flat iron steak, which comes served with grilled asparagus and black truffle hollandaise, and grilled chicken skewer with spelt tabbouleh and rose harissa yoghurt.

There will be vegetarian and vegan dishes too, such as coal-roasted celeriac Milanese; walnut ketchup, parsley and celery salad; burrata with broad bean and Amalfi lemon salsa and aubergine steak, sourdough, tomato and chilli sauce. Fenwick's executive chef Mark Reid said: “Our reimagined spring menu is inspired by our environment; a beautiful al fresco dining space".

He said the menu suits brunch, lunch or as an accompaniment to a sundown cocktail and added: "Our simple yet intriguing plates of food created from the finest, freshest ingredients have been designed to be enjoyed no matter what time of day." On the revamped cocktail list will be the likes of Whiskey Peach - including honey, whisky and crème de peche - and Rosé Paloma, described as a perfect summer day drink featuring tequila, grapefruit soda, rosé, lime juice, thyme and grapefruit.

Also on the store's new season programme is a series of masterclasses and talks about home styling, design and how to make a house reflect individual identity. The first Interiors Showcase will take place on April 13, with a panel talk about individual style, then upcoming options will include Whitewall Galleries looking at art and sculpture and a Barker & Stonehouse takeover.

Also among them will be a BoConcept event on April 29 when customers will be able to drop in with their room details for in-store interior designers to produce a 3D plan of it featuring an iconic design. There also will be an opportunity on that day to win a Bolzano chair.
