A female former teacher has pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse of one of her students in Sydney's northern beaches over 40 years ago.

On Tuesday, Lee Joyce Dunbar made the guilty plea at Sydney's Downing Centre District Court, setting the stage for her sentencing later this week.

The Five Dock woman, who is on bail, was arrested and charged in November 2020 after police in Strike Force Southwood investigated decades-old allegations of sexual abuse and teacher/student relationships in the metropolitan beachside region.

The 69-year old has pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a female and committing acts of indecency on a child over the age of 16 years.

The court found four other charges of assaulting a female and committing an act of indecency upon a child aged between 14 and 16 years were inappropriate and were struck out.

Police allege Dunbar sexually abused one of her students, who was then aged between 15 and 17 years old, between 1978 and 1980.

If a judge is available, the ex-teacher will be sentenced on Thursday.
