Female conductor assaulted and spat at by gang of youths on Glasgow train

British Transport Police are appealing for information after a member of rail staff was assaulted and spat at by a group of youths at Hairmyres station.

The shocking incident happened on Sunday (February 27) on the 3.55pm service from East Kilbride to Glasgow Central, when a group of youths began harassing and verbally abusing the train conductor.

When the train arrived at Hairmyres station at 4pm, the group followed her on to the platform and continued shouting and swearing at her.

Members of the group pushed her and two teenage boys spat at her.

The conductor walked away from them, then several minutes later a teenage girl from the group approached her again and continued to be verbally abusive towards her.

The group consisted of around five or six teenagers, between the ages of 14-16. The first male is described as white, of slim build and wearing a grey hoody with tracksuit bottoms. The second had a round face, of slim build and with short dark hair, wearing a dark tracksuit. The third; tanned skin, of slim build, with dark eyes and wearing a dark tracksuit with grey on it. The fourth, a white male of slim build, with short dark hair, wearing a white and navy tracksuit top and bottoms.

The female from the group is described as white, of slim build, and with dark hair in a ponytail. At the time of the incident she was wearing a white and grey long-sleeved top.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have information which could assist their enquiries.
