Felix Nmecha signs for new club after Man City release to join brother Lukas at Wolfsburg

Felix Nmecha has followed in the footsteps of his older brother Lukas and completed a deal with Wolfsburg.

Felix, the younger of the two Nmecha brothers, was out of contract at Manchester City this summer, and the club decided against renewing his deal in order to give him a better opportunity to further his career elsewhere.

He had been a key member of the under-23 and under-18 squads in recent years, as well as impressing against Football League opposition in the EFL Trophy. However, with plenty of competition in attacking areas at academy level, the decision was taken to release the England youth international.

He's now completed a move to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, where he will link up once again with brother Lukas, who has recently completed an £11m transfer from City.

Lukas will take the number ten shirt, while Felix takes the number 22 as he signs a three-year contract with the club.

Unlike his brother, Lukas represents Germany at international level, having previously featured in the England set-up. Both players came through the academy sides at City, before now reuniting in Germany.

Lukas had explained his move by indicating that he didn't expect a fair chance of first-team football at City, with Wolfsburg manager Mark van Bommel offering him a challenge to play regularly and potentially break into the German senior side.

The elder Nmecha brother was sold to raise funds as City look to make a high profile signing this summer. His sale, along with that of Jack Harrison and the expected sell-on money due from Jadon Sancho's move to Man United, means City have raised almost £35m this summer from fringe players.

Upon his release, Felix penned an emotional farewell to City, writing on Instagram: "After 13 years of supporting and playing at this amazing club it's time for the next step in my career.

"(I'm) leaving with so many memories and friends made, I want to say thank you to God first because without Him none of this would have been possible.

"I want to say thank you to every player I've played with, coach I've worked with and every person that has helped me on this journey.

"This club will always be a part of me and in my heart. I wish everyone all the best in the future in every area of their lives physically, spiritually and mentally."
