Féile an Phobail announce big Fight Night headlined by home hero

Féile an Phobail have announced a massive night of boxing as part of this summer's festival.

Organisers have confirmed that home hero Padraig McCrory will headline the event at Falls Park on Friday night, August 4.

The 35-year-old becomes the third Belfast boxer to top a Féile bill, following on from Michael Conlan and Tommy McCarthy.

McCrory - who hails from the St James' area - has previously featured on Conlan's undercards at the Féile, but now he will take centre stage in front of thousands of fans at the outdoor arena.

He says his first headline show on home soil will be a "proud moment" for his family.

"I have just turned 35 and the Féile is also 35 years old, so I have grown up with this festival," McCrory said.

"It is a huge event and it will be a very proud moment for me and my family. Hopefully we get a massive crowd at Falls Park on August 4."

McCrory is due to fight Steed Woodall at this year's festival as he continues his pursuit of a world title shot. The Belfast super-middleweight remains undefeated after 17 fights, and last year travelled to Germany to win the IBO World light-heavyweight title against Leon Bunn.

'The Hammer' was in enemy territory that night in Frankfurt, but he will be the home favourite on August 4.

"It is exciting now the announcement has been made. I can't wait for it," McCrory said.

"The festival has been part of my life every summer. For me being the main event at one of the Féile events is massive for me.

"I headlined the show in Germany, but this will be my first main event at home. Michael Conlan has headlined the Féile before, and Tommy did many years ago.

"We hope to get a ranking title for this fight. We have to wait and see, but it will be a big fight anyway.

"I am excited to be back fighting again. We hope to get 5,000 people into it.

"This is a massive local festival and it is getting bigger every year. It will be a stacked car with people like Lewis Crocker, Kurt Walker, Fearghus Quinn and Sean McComb on it."

Tickets for the show go on sale on Friday, June 30 at 10am From http://Ticketmaster.ie
