Feedback Sports’ launch improved ‘Pro Mechanic’ evolution of their legendary Elite bike work stand

Feedback Sports' Pro Mechanic work stand assembled ready to use

Feedback Sports started back in 2004 with a digital scale that our Tech Editor Guy Kesteven still swears by for weighing some of the best mountain bikes around. They then released their first ‘Pro’ work stand in 2008, and as the name suggests it was designed in conjunction with pro peloton mechanics who needed a lightweight mobile stand with workshop quality.

The distinctive red anodised design has evolved over the years to maintain its gold-standard reputation but the latest version is a significant hop up in ease of use and stiffness. They’ve added some more small tools to their range too and invested heavily in a switch to sustainable packaging and manufacturing materials.

The new Pro Mechanic initially looks similar to the existing and very well-proven Elite Mechanic stand but that familiar red anodised, 6061T6 alloy tripod base structure is now oversized for a claimed (and very specific) 146% stiffness increase. This brings maximum bike weight up to 75lbs but the standstill packs down to 5″ x 8″ x 45″ (13 x 20 x 115cm) with a weight of 12lbs (5.4kg).

The hardware is uprated too with a new clutch on the 360-degree clamp increasing holding power by 110% and the tightening knob on the back and the mast tube collar are new as well. The signature ‘Speed Ratcheting’ seat post clamp gets a fresh front spinner knob for faster closure and better micro adjustability so you can get your bike locked into the stand more easily. A big help if you’re working on a heavy Enduro/DH or E-bike. The jaws of the clamp get tool-free replaceable rubber pads to stop worn pads marking your seat post or frame.

Feedback Sports has set up its own Sustainability Action Group to lower its environmental impact going forward too. That includes 80% recycled/100% recyclable cardboard packaging for the stand with no polybag, zip ties, foam, cellophane tape or staples. The box is designed to be tough enough for shipping but looks good enough for store display which reduces waste and maximizes shipping efficiency.

While I only got a tryout of the Pro Mechanic at the Bike Connection pre-launch, it’s got the same super satisfying, stable and solid feel anyone lucky enough to use the Elite Mechanic will recognise. Clamping action and adjustment are faster and easier to use though which is impressive considering Feedback was already the benchmark for usability. Stands should start appearing in shops soon priced at $395 / €425 but I’ll be getting a stand-in for a long-term test in a few weeks so stay tuned for a full review on that.

Feedback is also phasing in more PA56 non-petrol bio-based composite in their range of workshop tools. They’ve also added a super neat ratcheting torque driver, improved chain tool, disc rotor straightener and a chain roller for 12mm rear axles so you can still work on the drivetrain with the rear wheel removed. I came back from the Italian pre-launch with examples of all of those so full reviews will be up on the site shortly. If you don’t mind a spoiler though I can tell you they reinforce Feedback’s reputation for proper Pro-honed quality without excessively high pricing and if you want to invest in some top quality, cost-effective kit for home wrenching they’re a great option.
