Federal agents seized 110 pounds of liquid methamphetamine at a Texas border crossing earlier this week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
The drug, worth approximately $2.1M, was found inside a passenger vehicle at the Rio Grande City Port of Entry on July 24, agents said Wednesday in a news release.
Officers found the narcotic using a dog team and equipment that used “non-intrusive inspection system” technology.
“Our frontline CBP officers at Rio Grande City Port of Entry utilized their training, experience and use of our canine teams and technology to interdict a substantial load of hard narcotics,” Port Director Andres Guerra, Roma/Rio Grande City Port of Entry, said in a statement.
According to a CBP spokesperson, officers assigned to the Rio Grande City International Bridge initially stopped a 2012 Dodge for further inspection.
After officers conducted a “thorough secondary examination” in the vehicle — which was arriving from Mexico — they found the drug “concealed within the vehicle.”
The narcotic, the vehicle, as well as the driver, a 41-year-old male U.S. citizen, were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
