At the end of a long season with almost 40 possible tournaments for PGA Tour players to contest, the race to become FedEx Cup champion is just four rounds away.
Only the top-70 golfers on the PGA Tour contested the first of three FedEx Cup Playoff tournaments - the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind - before the top-50 moved on to the BMW Championship at Castle Pines the following week.
Now, only the best 30 players have earned the right to tee it up at East Lake Golf Club in Georgia for the Tour Championship and a chance to significantly increase their bank balance while becoming the latest FedEx Cup champion.
The total prize pool for all three FedEx Cup Playoff events is $100 million. Both the FedEx St Jude Championship and the BMW Championship saw $20 million on offer, with the respective winner paid $3.6 million and the runner-up earning $2.16 million. Hideki Matsuyama and Keegan Bradley won the FedEx St Jude Championship and BMW Championship, respectively.
Now that the top-30 is set ahead of one last tournament, it will be a race to the finish and the $25 million winner's check - only with a staggered start for those who have produced the best golf so far this season.
Scottie Scheffler begins at East Lake on 10-under while Xander Schauffele, in second, starts on eight-under. Matsuyama (-7), Bradley (-6), and Ludvig Aberg (-5) are behind them, while groups of golfers will go off on Thursday at -4 down to even par, depending on their FedEx Cup status.
And at the end of the Tour Championship, the player with the lowest stroke total over 72 holes when combined with his FedExCup Starting Strokes will be crowned the FedExCup champion and earn a five-year PGA Tour exemption as well as that sizeable bonus.
FedEx Cup prize money has increased exponentially in recent years, with 2024's tally up $65 million from as recently as 2018, where the winner earned $2.5 million less than whoever finishes as runner-up this season.
Below is how much each of the top-30 in the 2024 FedEx Cup standings will earn after the completion of the Tour Championship.
FedEx Cup Prize Money Breakdown 2024
Who Is Favorite To Win The FedEx Cup?
Scheffler has a 1,193-point and two-stroke lead over his nearest rival Xander Schauffele heading into the Tour Championship and, as such, is the considerable favorite to bank an extra $25 million - on top of the circa $37.2 million he has already earned in 2024 alone.
Schauffele has been playing some of the best golf of his life this year, though, and will still feel he can overturn that deficit. Plus, a poor result at the BMW Championship for Scheffler (T33) will offer up a glimmer of extra hope to all those chasing behind.
