Federal Judge Pauses Filing Deadlines In Trump Classified Documents Case

A federal judge has temporarily halted some filing deadlines in the case involving former President Donald Trump and classified documents. The judge, Aileen Cannon, issued a brief order on Saturday, agreeing to additional briefings to determine the impact of a recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.

As part of the order, Judge Cannon set a two-week schedule for arguments on how the Supreme Court decision may affect the criminal proceedings in Florida. Three unrelated filing deadlines have been put on hold during this period.

In response to the judge's order, a spokesperson for Trump stated that the stay was appropriate and called for a complete dismissal of the case based on the Supreme Court's ruling on Presidential Immunity.

Trump faces charges related to the alleged removal of classified documents from the White House and resisting government efforts to recover the materials. He has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

This latest delay in the federal case comes after Trump's legal team requested an updated schedule to address the implications of the Supreme Court's immunity ruling. The Supreme Court recently determined that Trump may be immune from criminal prosecution for certain actions taken during his presidency.

While the Supreme Court's decision directly impacts Trump's federal election subversion case in Washington, DC, it could also have implications for the other criminal cases pending against the former president.
