A federal judge has ruled that the classified documents charges against former President Donald Trump will not be dismissed. Trump had argued that he had the authority to take classified or sensitive documents with him after leaving the White House. US District Judge Aileen Cannon issued a short order on Thursday, indicating that Trump could still use this argument in his defense at trial.
Judge Cannon's order also addressed a request from special counsel Jack Smith to make a final ruling on whether Trump's theory could be used at trial, allowing prosecutors to appeal to the 11th Circuit. Cannon deemed this request as 'unprecedented and unjust,' pushing back on the demand.
Despite this ruling, there are still over a dozen outstanding motions for Judge Cannon to address, including several other motions seeking to dismiss the case. The legal proceedings surrounding the classified documents charges against Trump continue to unfold as the case progresses.
