Federal Grand Jury Makes Decision on Chiefs Superfan Accused of Armed Bank Robbery

A federal grand jury indicted a Chiefs superfan Wednesday on 19 criminal counts in Kansas City, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri. The infamous fan, whose real name is Xaviar Babudar, has become well known among Chiefs fans on social media for wearing a wolf costume to Kansas City games.

Babudar was indicted on three counts of armed bank robbery, one count of bank theft, 11 counts of money laundering and four counts of transporting stolen property across state lines, according to ESPN. Federal prosecutors believe Babudar laundered stolen money through casinos in the Midwest and used the funds to attend Chiefs home and away games.

The 29-year-old, who is nicknamed “ChiefsAholic” on social media, was on the run after skipping a March court appearance in connection to an alleged December 2022 bank robbery in Oklahoma but the Kansas City FBI announced in July that he had been arrested

Babudar is connected to six robberies and two attempted robberies during a nine-month stretch from March 2022 to December ’22 across several Midwestern states. Authorities say Babudar stole more than $800,000 in total.

“The government’s announcement today of its 19-count indictment provides an unfair and unjust portrayal of Xaviar,” his attorney Matthew T. Merryman said in a statement, via ESPN. “His legal team believes his innocence will ultimately be proven to the public and we are confident that once all of the facts are known that he will be redeemed in the eyes of his supporters, admirers and the Chiefs Kingdom.”
