Fears new homes won’t fit in with the ‘style’ of Nottinghamshire village

People in Ravenshead have raised concerns over plans for new homes which they fear won't fit in with the ‘style’ of the village. Plans have been put forward for 11 new houses off Kighill Lane.

But villagers fear the four and five bedrooms proposed may not be in keeping with other new homes built by separate developers. Emma Sercombe, who is 42 and works in health and social care told, said: "It doesn’t fit in with the style of the homes - it’s cramped in.

"Thee schools are really good, it just adds extra pressure. It’s an ageing village and old people have lived here forever- there’s a lot of families coming here because it’s good.”

A resident on Kighill Lane, Ollie Newson, a 22-year-old sales assistant, spoke of the benefits of the area - but that the village was in need of more shops. “It’s a really nice area,” Mr Newson said. “There’s not so many amenities - there’s a few shops.

“We’ve got Nottingham and Mansfield nearby. The area is nice.”

Plans for the 11 houses have been submitted to Gedling Borough Council by Corvum LLP.

"This application proposes 11 detached dwellings and retains access for up to three further dwellings to be constructed on the adjoining landholding through separate application.

"The clearly evident physical constraints of the site width, shape, trees and retained residential property substantially reduce the net developable area and the council’s requirement to retain a deep building line to Kighill Lane further reduces development capacity.
